Dr. Vassilis Detsis is Associate Professor in the Department of Economics & Sustainable Development at Harokopio University, Athens, Greece. He graduated from the Biology Dept of the University of Athens and received his PhD from the University of Essen, Germany.
His current research interests focus on the analysis of historical land use and land cover change and their association with the relevant proximate causes and driving forces in an effort to understand the emergence of the observed patterns through the combined action of natural and anthropogenic processes, as well as their implications for the ecology and the state of land resources of the areas under study.
He has published 32 papers in peer-reveiwed journals, a monograph and six chapters in edited books and has presented his work in several scientific congresses. He has taken part in several research projects.
He has been Secretary (2016-2018) and Chairman (2018-2021) of the Hellenic Ecological Society.He is a member of the “Historical Landscape Ecology Working Group” of IALE and the Greek Zoological Society.
