Dr. Christina Chroni holds a degree in Agricultural Biotechnology, an MSc, and a PhD in Environmental Management and Technology. Since July 2023, she has served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Sustainable Development at Harokopio University.

Her scientific and research interests center on solid waste management and sustainable resource management within the framework of the Circular Economy. She has conducted studies on the prevention and management of biodegradable waste—particularly agricultural residues and food waste—as well as waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and plastic waste. The overarching  goal of her work is to support “closing the loop” in the life cycle of materials and products.

She has participated in 18 national and international projects related to waste prevention and environmental technologies, including six co-funded by the European LIFE Programme and one by Horizon 2020. Her research output includes 24 papers in international peer reviewed journals, seven book chapters, and more than 70 papers in international conferences.

She has extensive research and consulting experience with local authorities and the private sector in all aspects of waste prevention and management.

In 2018, she was recognised as one of the top reviewers  forthe scientific journal Waste Management.

Since December 2022, she has served as Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal Waste and Resource Management.
